Swagbucks Scam

January 24, 2010 By: admin

Swagbucks is a search engine website and the swagbucks.com states that you can earn their own virtual currency called swag bucks by frequently searching on their search engine. These earned swag bucks are then exchange able with some pre-mentioned items on their website. This is attractive enough for many people to gather on their website since almost every one already uses search engines in some way. The search results are actually a combination of Google and Ask search results where the duplicate results are filtered. I haven’t received any scam or fraud reports about swagbucks right now however the discussion area at the end of this page is open to post public opinion. By the time you are reading this post, may be several people might already have posted their own experience with Swagbucks. I am not sure about their plans but apparently their business model looks like they want the people to come for search purposes. When someone searches on Swagbucks, the results are mixed with their own advertisement which is probably their main source of income. In addition to that, they are probably gathering keywords as well to support their other projects. All the search engines including Google and Ask don’t provide enough keywords data to general public so if a company starts its own search engine, it will be a good opportunity to gather keywords. I have been reported that some people have developed bots to auto search on Swagbucks. I am not sure what measures Swagbucks people have taken to detect and separate bots from the actual people but I am sure this is not a good news for them. Every serious online business usually has to deal with such problems in start but in the long such problems are taken care of easily. I have also received reports from some people that their swagbucks account is deactivated without any reason. Probably that’s because the Swagbucks system has mistakenly deactivated their account assuming it is a bot accessing their website. I think they should develop some sort of request rejection method instead of deactivation of member account which obviously will be bad for their repute in the long run. The Swagbucks website now also offers a toolbar for Internet explorer, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. It seems that they are not scam and are seriously expanding their business. Hopefully they won’t quickly disappear like millions of other such work online business.

$5 from Paypal? You don’t get paid cash with Swag Bucks, you cash in the points to get prizes.

@Jason …yes, and one of those prizes is a $5 Paypal card. Although I always go for the $5 Amazon cards, myself, so I forget how much the Paypal one goes for (the $5 Amazon card is 450 SB).

Stay away from the special offers. You complete the special offers, Swag Bucks gets paid a referral fee from that company, then Swag Bucks thinks of any excuse not to credit your account for completing the special offer.

I check the Better Business Bureau and Swag Bucks has several complaints that have been filed against them.

Stay away from the special offers.

Agreed. Swagbucks works great. I have made $15 in giftcards in the past two months, and im not on much. If you are planning on signing up, please use this link. You get the same amount of swagbucks, plus me and you will be “connected”, so we both get extra points (therefore, extra money :))

If they deactivate your account, complain at the BBB here: “http://www.la.bbb.org/Business-Report/Swagbuckscom-100088742”

Their surveys feature is pure cornsh**! When you actually get to start a survey and answer a few of their questions, at which point you’ve already given away your details that could actually be part of the survey and most certainly are worth some points, all of a sudden you “are don’t qualify” for this survey. Sometimes you get an explanation such as they’ve already exceeded the number of participants or the survey has already expired. If that’s the case, why bother posting the surveys at all?
So, check the survey link to get your 1 point, but don’t bother doing the surveys. You won’t get any points for giving away free answers.
Oh, and stay away from the “special offers”. There’s nothing special about them and it looks like another scam. You can tell just by reading in on the details.

After I earned 500 Swagbucks and ordered a $5 Amazon gift card, they deactivated my account. The reason they gave me was that I opened multiple accounts. But the fact is that I only opened one account. The tone in their reply email is very tough and rude. And I also didn’t get the $5 Amazon gift card. They seem do not want to help their customers solve problems. So I do not recommend this Swagbucks.com. Maybe some day they will also deactivate your account with an enforced “reason”.
Be careful!

I had accumulated quite a few swag bucks, but I got rid of my old email provider because we went to cable and they won’t let me use them becasue I have to verify in my old account, before I can change my account information, but that provider is gone, so I can’t access my old email account to verify it. I am so bummed ,I had so many swag bucks too. Maybe someone will be helped by this post, if you are going to get a new email provider take care of your swag bucks first!

Don’t waste your time with SwagBucks you’ll only be disappointed I spend over a month complaining to them and all they did was delete my account after reporting them to the Better Business Bureau for refusing to resolve an issue. PLEASE head my warning if you want a legit earning site try mypoints, mysurvey, toluna, inboxdolllars, pchonlinesurveys, rewardport, myview. I have been a member since April 2010 and have had no problems with getting my Amazon gift cards. In fast I just put another $5 into my account yesterday from Swagbucks. I had heard some people being deactivated for no reason but I have had no problems.

I do not do any offers that require credit card info and if I do have to put my phone number in I put the Google # I have just for that. I open another window for the videos unless it’s the cooking ones then I watch those so that I can write down whatever recipe we want to try later. Games I do not play the ones you have to spend any SB points for, play for free and after 4 games you get 2 SB, I only play the ones I enjoy and would play anyways so it’s a win win for me.

If you have problems with them, contact them and from what I have heard they do their best to work with you. Just don’t cheat and try to use the Bot programs or you will be deactivated. I’ve have earned over 10,000 points since joining. It’s worth a few minutes a day.

I got a bunch of gift cards and the way I see it is just money. I would rather pay my credit card bill off with the gift cards than use my bank. Why can’t I do this online? Is there a possible way to do it on phone?. I was able to pay my maurices credit card bill with them though..

I have been a member for 4 years – I went inactive for 2 – and just came back to it – my account was still there – and as an added bonus I got an Amazon Gift card for coming back – at least it looks that way – I just logged into my account for the first time in 2 years a few days ago – and there was a GC sitting on my account – dated the same day I signed in – with no other activity. it is so easy to earn do the noso’s and the poll and a few searches everyday – and you will be cashing in for prizes in no time at all

The swagbucks surveys feel like a scam to me…. They offer points to complete surveys and I go through half of the survey and answer all of their questions and then they tell me… sorry, you do not meet the criteria to complete this survey. Yet, I’ve answered a ton of questions to give them a good idea about how I feel about their product ! I feel like they get the answers they want and then shut me down so they don’t have to give me points !!

I like Swagbucks, don’t get me wrong. However, there are some issues that I’ve had with it. More recently, they deactivated my account for “cheating” on SBTV by using auto-refresh. I sent two e-mails: one regarding an issue about captcha codes ruining my earning on SBTV, and another about an issue I was experiencing with the comments.

For the captcha codes, I told them that I used auto-refresh to earn SB’s. The person that replied to me was nice and did not have a problem with this. Not to mention, they had an auto-play button on SBTV about a year ago, but took it out for unknown reasons. She just told me that she could not do anything about it because she was not in charge and could not do anything. She told me to just enter the captcha codes for the time being. I did that, but to no avail. It just kept asking for codes. I leave SBTV on at night to earn, so I couldn’t enter all of the codes.

A few weeks later, I log-on and it says my account was deactivated. I’m sitting here all puzzled, so I decided to check the two e-mails. Keep in mind, different people replied to each. One of those e-mails said I was blocked for not entering the captcha codes (this was not the same e-mail as the “captcha code” one). What I don’t get is that there’s a blog post from SB that states “nobody needs to worry about being deactivated for not entering captcha codes”. Yet, I was deactivated for that reason, which leads me to believe something (otherwise) is going on.

Nonetheless, SB has failed to fulfill their promise (for me). It also so happens that I’m not the only one who was banned for no reason. I contacted them again with all the information needed and so far, no response. Though, that was only today, so I expect an e-mail from them by at least tomorrow. Hopefully, I get my account back, instead of making a new one, and hopefully, they realize their fault.

Otherwise, SB is good. I’ve earned many prizes. It’s just that one issue that bugs me the most, which Swagbucks really needs to improve on.

I have been using swagbucks for a few months and I can say I have in two to three months received atleast $50 to $60 in amazon.com gift cards so far no compliants, as far as special offers and surveys Im having no issues there either, and as far as points I get about 100 to 200 per day b only using swagbucks search and I print my coupons from there which when redeemed at a store your account gets credited 10points for each coupon! I love it!

I have had good and bad experiences. I’ve earned a $5 Paypal (not in my account yet), however I have issues with their Special Offers, which the Affiliate sometimes asks you to download software onto your computer, where they seem to install spyware, malware and other crap onto your hard drive. Then Swagbucks does not give you credit for it. In fact, I have a long list of tasks, surveys and special offers for which I have not been paid Swagbucks credits. In particular, the “casino” search and clicking on links does not verify your visit. Hundreds of Swagbuck points lost!

I just started in February 2012. Without much effort, I already redeemed a data cable for my iphone and close to 2 $5 Amazon gift cards. So, like anything, be cautious and don’t be greedy. If you save 8000 points for something big, it’s a huge risk you are taking, and you will be greatly disappointed. I played Bing Club until the end and knew that the prizes were going to be depleted quickly and I lowered my expectations on what to save for and what to earn. So, likewise, get the small prizes when you can.

Swagbucks has been a very positive experience in my case. As long as you keep to their guidelines (DOs and DON’Ts) you’ll be fine. Total amount of redeemed swagbucks is well over 67,000 so total (in Amazon $5 giftcards, as they’re usually best value) is well over $700 in about a year and a half. Not counting Restaurant.com vouchers and other little bits and pieces. I’ve had mixed success with the Special offers but no biggie. Trusted surveys is on the right track, still needs some work but it’s not bad and if you’re lucky you might snatch a 6 minute 75 SB survey (directly from swagbucks themselves, on your experience with their website. If you are disqualified from a survey you will get 1 SB for trying, up to 5 surveys total. Be truthful in your answers as consistency in the profile will yield better results in the future surveys targeted for you.

Until recently, Swagbucks has become a scam. Many users who have racked up points and try to redeem will have their accounts terminated for the reason that you are using multiple accounts, even if untrue, they will respond not further.

I have a swagbucks account that I tried out but felt like soon after I was getting extreme amount of irrelevant spam and scams. So, I did a test. I own my own domain and created an email address specifically to register a new account with swagbucks. I did nothing else. No offers or anything. The inbox has been inundated with endless phishing scams and fraud and nothing “connected” to swagbucks. This is proof that swagbucks sells your email and your info immediately to anyone who buys it. I only entered the info that was “required”. A complete fraud. If you are using Windows, you are screwed. There is most definitely spyware and keyloggers on your system.. but you “agreed” to it.

The site has become a major scam. They are just going gangbusters deactivated accounts for alleged auto timing devices while watching their SBTV. When they are really concluding that you have earned too much in too short amount of a time so you must be cheating. I was a member for nearly two years and other with longer lifetime there have also been deactivated.

SBs is (was?) a good program but recently they have been deactivating people seemingly randomly. I was deactivated for using an iframe or auto-refresher program (which I have no clue what those even are!). I tried to deal with them but they ceased to answer my emails. Oh, I had also just cashed in for a $100 Amazon gift card that I worked long and hard for. Ultimately after contacting the BBB, they reinstated my account but still said that I was cheating. Beware and don’t wait to cash out since you may be deactivated at any point with virtually no recourse.

I feel cheated by Swagbucks. They deactivated my account, claiming that I was using an autorefresher to abuse sbtv. I do NOT do this but when I explained to them that they made an error they pretty much called me a cheat and liar and said my account would remain deactivated. How ironic that they accuse ME of cheating! When they deactivated me I had the equivalent of $85 in points in my account – THEY have cheated ME!!!I think they flag anyone’s account if someone consistly maxes out sbtv so they can claim you are cheating and deactivate you so they don’t have to pay out.

Swagbucks will occasionally pay up but on thing to keep in mind is your computers security.
I am a IT security pro and ran a series of tests during a 30min session on Swagbucks , after the session which was started with a clean computer virus scans found over 35 threats some quite malicious and also a ton of spyware.
The fresh computer immediately slowed down and began to exhibit typical infection signs.
I don’t completed diss Swagbucks but you must weigh out the security costs of eventually replacing a infected PC.In 2013 over 10,000 new malware threats were reported. In the new era of malware spyware and trojans to name a few I would imagine that one should seriously consider their personal identity and banking security.
