Hostpapa vs Hostgator, Used both

By: Cris

3.0/5.0

2023-05-13 16:05:16

I have used Hostpapa and now i am on Hostgator. I feel that its a much better deal, I opted for 3 years hosting plan of hostgator, the price the offered me was justified as the websites seem to load faster now. There is no downtime so far. Also my emails are not going directly into the inbox of most of the clients. with Hostpapa, I sometimes faced issues with emails delivery.
Hostgator customer support is also better than Hostpapa, i had to contact them to ask for a PHP configuration and they told me to do the configuration using the .htaccess file which worked fine.
So if you are fed up with Hostpapa then you should try Hostgator.

Started to timeout around 10K visitors per month

By: Tony

I had a WordPress blog on Hostpapa hosting. stayed with them from the start to the time when the blog page started to show frequent timeouts during peak hours. My traffic was barely touching 10K per month and the timeouts were affecting my ranking on Google. My Google search insight showed frequent crawling errors,
When I contacted the Hostpapa support, the only option they gave me was to upgrade. so I had to switch to Hostinger and now my blog is running again. My traffic now between 12K to 15K per month and no issues so far. I am not promoting Hostinger but just stating my experience. I am actually paying less than Hostpapa now but getting better web hosting.
Hostpapa is not bad for new website owners, I also stayed with them for several years. its just that Hostinger is better. Sorry Hostpapa, but had to leave, you should have invested something back in your servers. s

Lunarpages was much better

I dont like changes, therefore, i mostly stick to the same business partner unless i get really hurt. Hostpapa tried to squeeze me too much. The hosting charges were more than doubled and when i complained, they blamed Covid which apparently didn't had to do much about it. The recent billing i got was insane and unjustifiable so I migrated to Hostinger, its much better and cheaper. I am glad i moved! I suggest those who suffer from Hostpapa to migrate to better hosts too.

The good, the bad and the Hostpapa

The worst of the worst hosting ever. Dont ever buy any of the Hostpapa hosting packages. They tricked me into buying their web hosting by offering a very cheap package but when they renewed my package, they charged almost triple the original amount. I cannot claim a refund due to some bull**t terms and services page that I didnt see when ordering. Scammers indeed! If you dont believe me, check their Trustpilot profile, its also full of reviews from overcharged clients!

Prices are deceiving for multiple year packages

By: Robert

3.0/5.0

2023-02-25 05:02:48

When you buy any web hosting package greater than one year, you assume that everything is being paid for that entire time. But with Hostpapa, if you buy 2 years package, you will still need to pay a yearly renewal fee for the free domain. It can be classified as deceiving if not a scam. One more thing, the domain renewal fee they charge is much higher than the market standard rate. Non of the other web hosts every charged me for the domain name renewal before. I have used Hostmonster, Hostgator and now switched to Hostinger from Hostpapa. Better stay aware of what you are going to pay. Their website hosting is not very fast as well, It keeps the ball rolling though.

Setup was Quicker that expected

I recently moved a few websites to Hostpapa. The setup time was much quicker than most other web hosts i used so far. I am happy so far with my experience with them.

I am facing Slow FTP connection

By: Ali Ahmad

I tried different settings in Filezilla but still my FTP connection on Hostpapa hosted websites is much slower than the websites i hosted on Hostinger. My websites also seem to be a bit slower so i think i will soon remove them from the list of my chosen web hosts.

Beware of Hostpapa Cancellation Deductions

By: Denial

2.0/5.0

2022-09-04 21:09:40

Decide before hand. Dont get trapped by their cancellation guarantee. Hostpapa has deliberately made the cancellation process to hard, you have to write a cancellation request and to prove your identity again etc, After all that hassle, you will still end up paying $40+ as free domain registration and setup charges even if you successfully claim your cancellation. Also you cannot avoid the free domain, i didnt need a domain but still had to enter the domain name as i woudnt want to migrate any of my domains to hostpapa at all. I dont trust them with their deceiving practices and now after this incident, i will tell everyone to stay away from them. Always double check what they offer and not only on their website but on reviews websites like trustpilot, notscam etc. as well

Only 500MB Email Account Limit

By: Jen

3.0/5.0

2022-08-01 15:08:16

Can you imagine that Hostpapa offers you email accounts which are 500mb. What can you do with a half GB email inbox these days? Hostpapa is living in ancient times. I was using their shared hosting for my blogs but had to switch in the end due to email issues.

Trouble with email Inbox folder being full

By: David N.

2.0/5.0

2022-07-20 14:07:59

I have to deal with frequent email issues, looks like most of the time my inbox becomes full and I am unable to receive emails. They want me to upgrade my hosting plan just because of the email folder size which is not even friction of the free emails I am using like Gmail or even Hotmail. I also use Hostgator and Hostmonster and never had this email issue with them. Looks like another tactic to force me for unnecessary upgrades. I am going to switch as soon as my plan expires!

Hostpapa Renewal Price Is Much Higher Than the Initial Price

By: Omar

2.0/5.0

2022-06-22 14:06:39

I was surprised to see the billing they did for my hosting account. It is almost twice the amount I paid while signing up with them. I wonder why there is so much difference in price of the same service they were giving me till now. Hostpapa should give more discount to the clients who renew with them instead of charging them the double amount. They have already charged me so i have to stay with them for current term but i will make sure to cancel before the next renewal.

Got Extra Discount from Hostpapa

By: Alan

4.0/5.0

2022-06-10 14:06:00

I bought hostpapa web hosting when I was offered an extra discount. I thought its worth a try at the price and glad I purchased their hosting. Its pretty decent, though I havent put any traffic bearing website on it yet. Loading time and uptime seems to be ok. Not bad!

Hostpapa Email Hosting

By: Jim

5.0/5.0

2022-06-07 10:06:11

I am using Hostpapa web hosting for the sole purpose of emails backup. Their email hosting is pretty good, I have so many emails on their hosting and i can use my email accounts without any issues, The web hosting is a bonus for me which works good as well. I have a website which has very good traffic and still no warning email seen from Hostpapa unlike many other hosts who might have already sent me an email to upgrade my hosting package. All 5 stars from me!

No Control over Bots

By: Don

2.0/5.0

2022-06-04 05:06:37

I was threatened by Hostpapa support to cancel my account as my website was exceeding their limits. I have investigated the issue and found that there are some bots who try to access my website and there is nothing that i can do to control that on Hostpapa's interface. Thanks to a freelancer from Designsols who helped me in this case and setup Cloudflare as proxy between my Hostpapa web hosting and the bots. He had done some settings after which i no longer see those kind of bots and my traffic has returned to the original number.
However this experience has caused me to lose all my trust on Hostpapa support and i will now migrate my websites as soon as my contact expires. I am now not sure whether they cannot controls the bots or they intentionally dont do so! This is certainly a question on their legitimacy!

Very High Prices

Hostpapa charged me almost twice the amount of the original plan at the time I bought their web hosting. I didnt know that their renewal price is that high and their emails kept going to the spam folder. I only found it when they had already charged my card I will leave them as soon as my package expires. Their web hosting is good but not as good as the price hike for me.

Hostpapa VPS Hosting

By: Robert

4.0/5.0

2022-05-23 15:05:12

I have been a user of Hostpapa shared hosting in past which was good until i reached 50K visitors per month after which i got an email from them that my website is pulling too much resources and they are going to suspend my account. I was very disappointed but decided to go with their lowest VPS plan which is pretty expensive than the existing shared hosting plan i had at that time but i had not choice due to prorated refund.
I upgraded to their Mercury VPS plan which only had 2GB RAM backed by 4 core CPU. The SSD storage was 60GB which was more than enough for me and the 1TB bandwidth limit is also OK for the time being. Currently it is sustaining my website load without any issues and the website loading speed is also considerably increased. The only issue i am facing is that i have to do everything myself now. I have no control panel and i have to control my VPS using command line tools which is a bit difficult for me.
To conclude, i would say that if your website is on Hostpapa shared hosting and has more than a thousand visitors per month then you should prepare yourself to switch to a VPS plan as a sudden change can put you in an uncomfortable position.

High Renewal Fees and Hidden Charges

By: Smantha

2.0/5.0

2022-05-19 10:05:58

I got burnt by just looking at their renewal email and assuming that the total shown is correct. Ended up getting paid almost $100 more oh and they also charged my card 15 days before the renewal date which felt a bit odd too. I suggest that if you want to stay with Hostpapa then you should take a backup of your websites and opt out of their autorenewal (better to save the emails as proof). Once you do that wait for the last day of your hosting plan and then just buy another hosting from them with their discounted price and take the backup of your existing websites and then restore it on your new account. This little process can save you $100 or even more.
I dont know why they charge more from their existing clients than what they offer to their new clients . It feels unfair, existing loyal clients should get extra discount.

Had to Upgrade to VPS hosting from Shared Hosting

By: Mike

3.0/5.0

2021-12-10 06:12:01

Hostpapa shared web hosting is good for business pages where you only need to display your company information, present your products or services and a contact us page. Mostly that is enough for small local businesses However if your business is web based or you are planning to host some kind of blog or any other traffic bearing website then I would say you should either go for hostpapa VPS hosting or look elsewhere. I had hosted my blog with hostpapa and it was going fine till my traffic crossed 300 visitors per day after which my blog became too slow to load during traffic peak hours and sometimes its wont load at all. I had upgraded to their VPS hosting which greatly improved the website loading time however their VPS hosting is too expensive so I had to migrate to a different as all my blog earning was going to their web hosting fee.
Not bad for small businesses. Their uptime is impressive so if you have low traffic then you probably wont have any issues.
Shared hosting and even Wordpress hosting is Not good for traffic bearing websites. One needs to minimum select their VPS hosting package is very expensive. If you do a little research then you can find many other options in the same price range. Just make sure to check for the hosting company reviews on notscam and other customer reviews websites before buying.

Hostpapa Unlimited Hosting is Actually very Limited

By: Dani

3.0/5.0

2021-10-06 07:10:37

I had a very small WordPress website hosted with them and every thing was going fine. As soon as my traffic reached 80 to 90 visitors per day, they started to send me emails that I need to upgrade my hosting package to more expensive package. I was very surprises so I asked them to provide me with access log and the bandwidth usage data. Now it was probably their turn to get surprised as they were not expecting me to be a web related person however that stopped the harassing emails for some time.
A few months later they again started to send me emails to upgrade or modify my website otherwise they might suspend my account. I again asked for the logs but they kept telling me same thing again and again without providing the logs. Btw my whole website size was 76.5mb and I am pretty sure I was using just a few GB of bandwidth at that time. I didn’t want to find my website suddenly suspended one day so I moved from Hostpapa to HostGator, and now my traffic with same wordpress setup is over 3000 visitors per day which sometimes even reach 3500 visitors, I have yet to see any email from hostgator. I bought the 3 years package with lower price than what Hostpapa was offering and I am very peaceful now.
I concluded that Hostpapa probably only want to keep those customers who consume very low resources with and want to kick out those who consume more. That is a win win for them, as they have to use less resource to accommodate more with same machines. I am a software engineer and a web developer so I can easily understand what they are doing.

I am giving Hostpapa 3 stars as their hosting had a good uptime and also they refunded my remaining amount so they are not a complete scam
They use word unlimited with almost every thing but in reality they are very limited, they coudnt accomodaet my 76.5mb website with less than 100 visitors per month and with just a few GBs per month.
only use Hostpapa if your website is going to have less than 50 to 60 visitors per day and that too with small size
